There were mixed results for sides across the borough

It was a disappointing weekend for many Caerphilly County Borough sides, with loses and postponements adding to the pressure of the South East Wales Cricket League.

There was finally some good news for Blackwood Town, who travelled to Penarth in division two,

A good Penarth side opened the batting but set a poor run total of just 124 for Blackwood to chase, all out inside 35 overs.

The visitors chased the total down in just 26 overs, eventually winning by eight wickets to grab only their third win of the season.

There was bad news elsewhere in the division though as Newbridge hosted bottom of the league Brecon.

Despite their position, Newbridge could only manage 153 runs when they opened the batting.

The visitors made the run total comfortably, dropping just two wickets.

As Machen didn’t play over the weekend, only Crumlin took the field; at home against Barry Athletic.

In a reduced overs match, Barry batted first and set a total of 160 in 25 overs for Crumlin to chase.

They got very close, but ultimately came four runs short of winning. They sit seventh after that one.

There was more positive news in division four in the match between Cardiff thirds and Pontymister and Crosskeys.

It was Cardiff who opened the batting, and in another reduced over game, set a total of 146.

Pontymister just about made the total, winning by six wickets with just a few balls left in the final over.

Abercarn had no game in division seven so down to division ten and Cefn Fforest and Maesycwmmer had a derby match against Pontymister and Crosskeys seconds.

Cefn Fforest batted first on this occasion, and set a pretty poor total of 102, all out inside 28 overs.

The hosts made light work of the chase, winning by five wickets.
