Bargoed Bowls Club lifted the division five title over the weekend

In a first versus second winner takes all match-up, Bargoed Bowls claimed victory over Bridgend Municipal to win the division five title.

The pair met at the Welfare Green, Bargoed, on Saturday September 7 knowing a win for either side would mean securing top spot.

Bargoed came into the game three points behind the visitors, and were met with a “fantastic crowd” according to the club.

The game itself was a relatively stress-free one for the hosts, who found themselves with a 19-shot lead at one stage.

Bridgend mounted a spirited comeback to get within touching distance, but Bargoed finished strong to eventually win the match by 14 points.

The result meant Bargoed have gained back-to-back promotions, and will compete in division four next season, alongside Bridgend who also gained promotion in second.

The club thanked the members, fans, and volunteers who have all helped this season, before wishing Bridgend well.
