Trethomas Bluebirds will hope to extend the gap at the top with a win over Llanelli

Cymru South leaders Trethomas Bluebirds will be looking for revenge as they prepare to face title hopefuls Llanelli Town this Friday night.

Mark Dunford’s Bluebirds come into the match full of confidence after a bounce-back 6-4 win over Cwmbran Celtic, but know they have their work cut out against a Llanelli side who handed them their first league loss of the season in the reverse fixture.

Speaking to Caerphilly Observer ahead of the game, Dunford said: “It was a really good win and performance against Cwmbran, coming off a disappointing performance against Baglan.

“It lifts everyone at the club and we’ll head into this one with confidence and excitement.”

Asked what he learnt from their 4-1 loss to Llanelli last time out, Dunford said: “They’re a side with a tremendous amount of talent and quality on the ball.

“If we’re not on top of our game we know they’ll take full advantage of it. We’ve done our work in the week and are ready to go.”

The hosts come into the match having lost just one league game this season, but find themselves three points off Trethomas in third. They do however have a game in hand over the Bluebirds and Pontypridd United in second.

Dunford continued: “They’re right up there where they expect to be, and I’m sure it’ll be a great occasion and match.”

There is cause for celebration before tomorrow night’s match kicks-off however, with striker Callum Huggins announced in the Cymru Leagues team of the week.

Huggins, who is on loan at the Bluebirds from Barry Town, bagged his first hat-trick for the club on the weekend. Speaking about his striker, Dunford added: “Callum is an excellent player with lots of potential.

“He’s been held back a bit with a groin injury, but in a game which might not have suited him, he worked hard and made things happen.”

Trethomas Bluebirds travel to Llanelli for a 7.30pm kick-off on Friday December 6.
