Gerwyn Price became just the fourth player to hit a nine-darter at this year’s Premier League Darts, but it wasn’t enough to stop a quarter-final exit on Night 10 in Manchester.

Price, from Markham, faced league leader and reigning world champion Luke Littler in the opening round on Thursday April 10.

However, Price’s six-game winning streak against the 18-year-old came to an end, despite Price’s nine-dart finish, with Littler winning 6-3 to reach the semi-finals.

However, Littler was beaten at that stage by Luke Humphries, who in turn was beaten by Nathan Aspinall in the final.

The results mean Price remains third in the standings – within the play-off places – with Aspinall now level on points but one place behind him.

After Night 10 concluded, Price was awarded a custom-made set of solid gold darts worth £30,000 as a reward for his nine-darter.

Speaking to Premier League sponsors BetMGM, which presented him with the award, Price joked: “I’ve never been so happy to lose.

“I’ve had my eye on the gold darts for a while and it’s a fantastic initiative from the sponsors BetMGM. It was a brilliant moment to hit the nine in front of a great crowd in Manchester.”

The Premier League heads to the Netherlands next week, with Night 11 being held in Rotterdam on Thursday April 17.

There, Price will go up against Aspinall in the opening round, with the winner facing Humphries or Chris Dobey in the semi-finals.
