It was another successful event for the Nelson-based group

The Welsh Wallball Association has recently held its annual in-house Welsh Championship in Nelson, as it prepares to welcome players from across Europe later in the year.

It was a “very successful event” according to Michelle Hooper, who is both secretary and player, with “great” support from the community on a sunny weekend.

Andrew Meaney won the men’s single for a fourth time in a row, which is believed to be a new record according to Michelle.

Meaney also won the double competition with his partner Jamie Amos. The pair have experience together, landing gold in France last year.

The women’s singles was won by last year’s youth player Ffion Rogers, who came up against first tournament player Ellie Cherrett in the final.

Meanwhile Ceri-John Ivins swiped the win from under Joe Morgan’s feet with a final score of 21-19 in the youth competition.

Welsh Wallball also ran ‘B groups’ to ensure most players were able to take home a medal.

The next tournament is planned for August 23 and 24, where players across Europe will participate in the Welsh Open.
