There was a full weekend of action three weeks into the cricket season

The 2025 cricket season is in full swing, with teams already making their mark in the South East Wales Cricket League.

In Division Two, Newbridge recorded back-to-back wins with a 19 run victory over Radyr.

Batting first, hosts Newbridge set a score of 269 for Radyr to chase, losing just three wickets. The visitors made a good go at it, but came up short thanks to some good bowling. Newbridge sit fifth in the ten-team division.

There were three borough sides in action down in Division Three, starting with Crumlin who claimed a five wicket win over Barry Athletic.

Needing 184, Crumlin made the chase with five wickets to spare and move up into sixth.

There was also good news for Machen, who travelled to Brecon and had to match a fairly lowly score of 123 set by the hosts.

The visitors made a bit of a tough job of it, but got over the line winning by three wickets to claim their first win of the season.

Finally, Blackwood Town were in action at home to Llandaff, and would have felt fairly confident having posted a score of 225 for the visitors to chase.

Unbeaten Llandaff made light work of the task however, winning impressively with eight wickets to spare.

In Division Four, Pontymister and Crosskeys continued their fast start to the season with a 29-run win over Monkswood.

Setting a total of 219 for the visitors to attack, Pontymister held on well and move up to second in the standings.

Abercarn were in action in Division Seven, but made it three losses from three after a six wicket defeat to Taw.

It was a relatively simple chase for Taw, with Abercarn scoring just 102 runs. They sit bottom of the league.

Down in Division Ten, Cefn Fforest and Maesycwmmer’s winless start also stretched into a third game following a 105-run loss to Penarth.

Penarth set a total of 265 for Cefn Fforest to chase, but the hosts could only manage 160 runs and remain bottom of the table.
