Wales women’s rugby league side host Scotland this weekend, in what will be the visitors’ first-ever game.

The game, which is being played at the Gnoll in Neath on Sunday August 3, kicks off at 4pm.

It will be followed by a clash with England at the same venue on Saturday August 9, which kicks off at 5.30pm.

Leeds Rhinos star Bethan Dainton, from Hengoed, will captain the side for the fixtures, while Cardiff Demons’ Amberley Ruck, from Caerphilly, is in the 23-player squad.

Both games will be aired live on S4C.

Next year, Wales will compete at the Women’s Rugby League World Cup for the first time, with the tournament being played in Australia and Papua New Guinea.

Head coach Tom Brindle welcomed the “excellent” news that the upcoming games would be televised, and said: “Right from the start, our aim has been to grow the game in Wales and showcase our excellent Welsh talent.

“We are grateful that S4C’s live coverage will ensure a wider audience for the women’s game.”
