Gerwyn Price’s is into the second round of the Australian Darts Masters after beating Joe Comito 6-3.
Price, from Markham, who won the competition last year, averaged over a ton as he began his bid for back-to-back titles in Wollongong.
Aussie Comito twice kicked off legs with five perfect darts, although it wasn’t enough to overcome the ruthless Price, who advanced with a 100.45 average.
Price, who prevailed in July’s Poland Darts Masters, is hoping to add to his impressive World Series haul on his return down under.
“I wasn’t firing on all cylinders, but a win is a win,” claimed Price, who is chasing his fifth World Series title this weekend.
“Joe hit some good scores at the right time and put me under pressure, but winning breeds confidence, and that’s all I want at the minute.”
Price will now face Chris Dobey in the next round.
