Steve Tandy will become Wales' new coach from September
Wales coach Steve Tandy

Wales rugby coach Steve Tandy has named his 38-man squad for the upcoming Six Nations campaign.

Dewi Lake will captain the side in Jac Morgan’s absence, while Leicester’s Gabriel Hamer-Webb and Bath centre Louie Hennessey – both uncapped – are also named in the squad, while prop Tomas Francis is back for the first time since the 2023 World Cup.

Tandy said: “There are a few changes to the squad from the autumn, some due to injury but others are a sign of the competition there is and how many players we have in the mix, which is a real positive. I think we have a good blend again within the squad moving into this campaign and can’t wait for us to assemble.

“I’m excited to get back into camp and look at how we build on the foundations established in the autumn and make sure we are continually growing and developing as a group.”

Discussing the captaincy, Tandy said: “Dewi is a great man and so passionate about Wales which I think everyone can see. I thought he was outstanding in the way he led during the autumn, not only in the three games he was captain but also how he supported Jac prior to that. I know he will continue to do an amazing job in the role this Guinness Six Nations.”

Controversial WRU plans to reshape Welsh rugby to be discussed in parliament

The players will come together on Monday January 26 to begin preparations for the competition.

Wales’ campaign begins against England at Twickenham on Saturday February 7.

Wales then host France on Sunday February 15, before welcoming Scotland to Cardiff on Saturday February 21. It will be followed by a trip to Dublin to face Ireland on Friday March 6, before Wales play Italy at the Principality Stadium in the final round of fixtures on Saturday March 14.

The WRU has confirmed the Principality Stadium roof will be closed for all three home games.
