Big freeze causes mayhem

Freezing temperatures again plagued the Swalec Leagues with the vast majority of games being postponed due to frozen pitches with only four games being played.

In Three South East, Heol-Y-Cww travelled to St Peters and came away with a 14-3 win. Wing Ashley Dommett scored the games only try and Mike Huckridge kicked three penalties in the triumph, with St Peters’s three points coming through the boot of scrum-half Owen Smith.

In Five East Caldicot claimed a bonus-point victory with a 34-21 win against Hartridge. Craig Powell, Matthew Hill, Sion Lewis and Mark Jenkins all crossed for tries for the homeside, in a win that moves them to fifth in the division.

In Five South East there was again only one game. St Albans had been leading Cowbridge, 16-15, in the final minutes, but Ed Lakin struck a fine penalty in the final minute to steal a 16-18 win for the visitors.

In the West only the game between Pyle and Glyncarrwyg survived the weather. The home side managed to hold on for a hard fought 10-8 victory to leapfrog Aberavon Greenstars and top division Four South West.
