Rising stars of Blackwood RFC have been given a financial boost by Crumlin based Brace’s Bakery.

The family-owned firm’s logo will appear on the shorts of the Under 7s and Under 8s teams in a new sponsorship deal through its ‘Bread for the Community Birthday Fund’.

Last season the team members’ parents funded the purchase of their kit, which was a financial struggle for some.

Claire Gilfillan, coach for the Under 7s, said: “We have a sponsor for the tops, but having matching shorts, thanks to Brace’s, means the team look and feel like rugby players when they compete in competitions.

“It adds to the fun and enjoyment of their game. When parents had to buy kit, it often excluded some children as their parents could not afford it.”

Scott Richardson, Sales and Marketing director at Brace’s, said: “Giving back to the local community as well as promoting a healthy and active lifestyle, are values that are very important to the Brace family. The lads really look the part with their new kit and we look forward to following their fortunes and wish them every success for the future.”
