Ystrad Mynach Netball Club has received a kit donation from Crumlin-based company Brace’s Bakery.
The team, established in 1980, had managed to raise £1,000 for the new kit last season, but the company they ordered from went bust and they lost the cash. As a result, the club decided to apply for a donation from Brace’s Community Fund and was successful.
Louise Tambini, captain of the first team, said: “Having identical kit for the entire club for the first time will bring a sense of belonging to players from all squads, regardless of age or ability.
“The club plays a vital role in engaging girls in physical activity and giving them an alternative to hanging around on the streets. We are a family-friendly club which relies on the freetime and goodwill of volunteers and parents to survive. We need to raise more funds to enable all members to have access to ‘subsidised’ kit. This means that regardless of their financial situation, all members can look and feel part of the club.”
The amount paid by Brace’s to the club was £109.
Scott Richardson, sales and marketing director at Brace’s said: “Giving back to the local community as well as encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle, are values that are very important to the Brace family. The hard work put in at Ystrad Mynach Netball Club is fantastic and we look forward to following the club’s fortunes and wish the players every success for the future.”
Ystrad Mynach’s first team plays within the Premier Division of the South East Wales League and the second team is in the first division. The club has two more adult teams for ladies over 14 years old and also runs five development teams.
