A group of Independent Living Skills (ILS) students have had success at a regional swimming gala recently.

The 14 students from Coleg Gwent’s Crosskeys campus took home nine gold, four silver and nine bronze medals at the International Pool in Cardiff.

They competed against youngsters from 12 other organisations involved in the Welsh Sports Association for People with Learning Disabilities (WSAPLD) in the south Wales region.

Lecturer Rebecca Williams is really proud of the students’ performance.

She said: “The swimming gala is one of the highlights of my job.

“It’s wonderful to think that some of our students, who would not have attained any sporting accolade previously, had the chance to represent their college.

“I am very proud of the students and the gala gives them a real sense of achievement.”
