Kiwi Tito backs Wales to end All-Blacks win drought

Sport | Richard Gurner | Published: 15:22, Friday August 21st, 2009.

Cardiff Blues captain Paul Tito reckons Wales can beat New Zealand for the first time in 56 years this autumn

Wales open their campaign on November 7 with a mouth-watering clash against the All Blacks at the Millennium Stadium.

New Zealand have suffered a slump in form after losing three of their last five matches to France and South Africa.

Kiwi Tito insists Warren Gatland’s men can exploit the tourists’ weaknesses and fragile confidence in Cardiff.

Cardiff Blues captain Tito said: “Wales can read into New Zealand’s recent performances because they won’t change too much before they come to Cardiff in November.

“Wales have improved over the last few years and the All Blacks are in a rebuilding phase so the gap is getting closer.

“The All Blacks aren’t on their game as they should be and Wales have a real chance of beating them.

“Normally at this time of year, New Zealand are killing everyone but then they don’t win the World Cup so maybe it’s a good thing. They will have to work harder in the next two years.

“People have called them rubbish but they have been beaten by a good team in South Africa but then Australia went over there and got the same scoreline.

“They have been missing key players like Dan Carter and Richie McCaw but they are on their way back now so it could be a different story.”
