Six Coleg Gwent students were recently selected for the British College’s Welsh Women’s football squad – made up of players chosen from further education colleges across Wales.
Crosskeys Campus students Abigail Powell, Katrina French, Katie Burridge, Rachel Griffiths and Ceri Hudson and Usk Campus student Chelsey Flenley were selected for the squad after successful trails earlier this year. A seventh student, Jade Williams from Crosskeys Campus, also stepped in to play for the team when Rachel Griffiths sustained an injury.
Students recently played against Aberystwyth University Ladies and English Colleges Football Association and also took part in Anglo Welsh Shield matches against British Colleges Sport England.
Sports Lecturer Mererid Dark said: “The team is performing really well and the quality of football is tremendous.
“All girls have found the standard of football extremely high and believe that there need to be more opportunities for girls’ club football in Wales.”
The five Crosskeys Campus players will also be heading to Bath University on Friday April 8 to represent Wales in the British College’s Women’s 5-a-side Championships, part of the National Championships.
Congratulations to you all.
