World Indoor Bowls Championship returns to Pontllanfraith

Bowls players from across the globe will join together in Pontllanfraith this week at the World Indoor Bowls Council Championship.

Caerphilly County Borough Council has said it is proud to be working again with the Islwyn Indoor Bowls Club and the World Indoor Bowls Council to host this year’s World Indoor Bowls tournament, which is taking place from Tuesday April 17 to Friday April 20.

The four day tournament has attracted players from countries across the globe including Canada, the Netherlands, Israel, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man, as well of players from England, Scotland, Ireland and of course Wales.

The tournament will begin on Tuesday at 9.30am with an opening ceremony. The schedule of play will then be as follows:

Tuesday April 17 2012
10am Play commences Session 1 to Session 6

Wednesday April 18 2012
9.30am Play commences Session 7 to Session 12

Thursday April 19 2012
9:30am Ladies Singles Quarter Finals
11:30am Gents Singles Quarter Finals
2pm Mixed Pairs Semi Finals
4.30pm Ladies and Gents Semi Finals

Friday April 20 2012
9.30am Mixed Pairs Final
11.30am Ladies and Gents Singles Final
1.30pm Presentation & Closing Ceremony

The World Indoor Bowls Council Championship is being sponsored this year by Caerphilly County Borough Council, Carlsberg, First Phase Electrical, Cellar Services, Squeeky Clean (Wales) and Blackwood Fire Ltd.

Tickets for the tournament cost just £2 and are available to purchase from Islwyn Indoor Bowls Club on the day.
