SWALEC National League Division One East round-up (Sept 5)

Defending champions Blackwood crossed the line half a dozen times in their 45 – 7 demolition of Tredegar on Saturday.

Tries came from Gavin Rees, Gareth Rosby, Mark Guilt, Dean Gibbs, Mike Georgriu and one penalty try.

Newbridge crashed to a 51-13 blitz against UWIC with the students, fresh from a three-month holiday, showing no signs of summer rustiness to go top of the division.

UWIC had found life difficult in the first half as they took a slender 13-10 lead at half-time.

But their homework must have been done as 26 points from fly-half Simon Humberson including a second-half try, allowed them to get into their stride.

Bargoed, inspired by 15 points from fly-half Steffan Jones beat Beddau 32-13 and Rumney also grabbed bonus points at Caerphilly with their 27-12 win.

Results of Caerphilly County Borough’s teams

Beddau 13 – 32 Bargoed

Blackwood 45 – 7 Tredegar

Caerphilly 12 – 27 Rumney

UWIC 51 – 13 Newbridge
