Rugby League match report: Valley Cougars 16 Bonymaen Broncos 36

Match report by Ian Golden

Bonymaen Broncos eased to a 36-16 win over Valley Cougars in Treharris on Wednesday night to remain still unbeaten in their two season history but they will go away from this game knowing that they have been in their toughest game to date.

Bonymaen travel to Bridgend Blue Bulls on Saturday in another top of the table clash and it’s yet to be seen whether two games in four days will destroy their winning run.

The visitors took an early 12-0 lead through two Richard Williams tries which were both converted by Ian Brooks

The third try came immediately, the first of Jason Howells’ hat-trick, to make the score 16-0 but the large home crowd had something to cheer about soon when Cougars struck back through Corey Lloyd.

Howells easily ran through for Broncos’ fourth after Cougars had a try disallowed which Ian Brooks converted but Cougars were determined not to give up. Dafydd Hilliard scored in the corner and Paul Emmanuelli did well to convert to make the score 10-22 at the break.

Broncos soon extended their lead. Nick Clancy ran 80 metres before getting tackled then Brooks scored from the next quick play-the-ball.

Their sixth try was a good individual effort from Howells running under the sticks that Brooks converted. Nick Clancy completed their scoring but Ieuan Sims grabbed a consolation try at the death which Emmanuelli converted to make the final score 16-36.
