Lewis Girls pupil takes bronze in Taekwondo World Championships

A Lewis Girls’ Comprehensive School pupil has been awarded a bronze medal at the recent International Taekwondo Federaton World Championships.

Charlotte Nickson, 16, is a Second Degree Black Belt and has trained with the Nelson Team Tae-Kwon-Do Centre, held at Nelson Community Centre every Sunday and Thursday between 6pm and 8pm, for the past ten years.

Leigh Pember, a Sixth Degree Black Belt and Charlotte’s TaeKwon-Do teacher, said: “Charlotte was the only female representative selected for Wales and all the hard work she has put in has paid off, her achievement is amazing we are all very proud of her.”

She also trains with the Welsh Squad at Sophia Gardens, and travelled to Tallin, Estonia for her first experience of international competition at the World Chamionships where she took bronze position.

Charlotte said: “I am really proud that all my hard work and training has paid off. I’m so happy that I won the bronze medal, and I am looking forward to next year’s European Championships in Slovakia so that I can build on my success.”
