A Coleg Gwent netball team won two prestigious trophies in two days recently.

The Crosskeys campus netball team won the Welsh FE colleges tournament in Cardiff, winning all eight matches against teams from colleges across Wales. They will now represent the Welsh team in the National Championships at Bath University in March.

The team also retained their Urdd netball tournament trophy for a second year running. The nail-biting final score was 11-8 against Ysgol Ystalyfera.

Coleg Gwent Coach Emma Hurley said: “The team played some outstanding netball on both days.

“I am very proud of their commitment and determination in the closely fought final stages of both tournaments, without this they wouldn’t have won.”

Captain Ashleigh Ridout, 17 from Pengam, said: “We played brilliantly in both tournaments – winning the Welsh championships means we’ll go to the National championships in March, and it was great to win the Urdd tournament for a second year running.”
