Sport | Richard Gurner | Published: 13:27, Thursday August 22nd, 2013.

Match report by Ian Lovell

Bedwas entertained newly promoted English side Henley Hawks in their first pre-season friendly on August 17.

Bedwas fielded two different teams for the two halves. The second featuring several Dragons players who needed game time following the cancellation of their pre-season trip to France.

The first half saw nine new faces in the starting 15. Both sides gave it their all but defences held strong.
Bedwas scored the only try of the half through number eight Phil Rees after 12 minutes, who showed great strength to crash through.

The following conversion attempt however was missed.

The second half saw the introduction of several Dragons players and again both sides put in a big physical effort. Henley scored a good try after 58 minutes via Will Woodward, Elliott Markham’s conversion putting his side ahead.

Bedwas continued to try and get back into the game and were rewarded with a try after 75 minutes by Ross Wardle, following a good break by James Thomas.

Jason Tovey successfully added the conversion and Bedwas held on for a 12-7 victory.
