RUGBY UNION: Caerphilly’s first home game of the season on September 14 ended in a defeat as the visitors put 42 points on the board at Virginia Park last weekend.
Despite fairing well against Pontypool Utd the previous weekend, the young Caerphilly side were 21 points down with 25 minutes played, with the visitors scoring three converted tries.
Caerphilly fought back just before half time, as outside half Luke Williams converted a 32nd minute penalty before, Tom Ogden crossed the line in injury time.
The visitors struck early putting the home side on the back foot, but could not hold on as Abergavenny stretched their lead through a series if penalties.
Caerphilly’s only answer was a debut try for second row Will Oliver, as he scored out wide during a sustained period of pressure.
Pressure to score forced Caerphilly into attack, leaving spaces behind, which the visitors took advantage of, scoring two late tries from deep within their own 22.
