A strong team performance on Saturday October 13 by Nelson saw them cruise through to the next round of the “Greyhound Cup”, with both strikers grabbing hat-tricks.
The game began on an even footing with both sides cancelling each other out. Nelson broke the deadlock when Dan Lewis broke the off-side trap to side step the keeper and roll the ball into the empty net.
Despite the Cavs creating further chances Treforest equalised a quarter of the way through the match with a well taken opportunity which split the Nelson defence.
Nelson reacted positively with a great 15 minute spell. Following good work down the right side of the pitch, a shot from Lewis Roberts forced the keeper to make a save, deflecting the ball onto the bar and allowing Dan Lewis to smash in the rebound.
Ben Banks opened his account with a great team goal which started in defence and following slick passing, ended with Banks slotting the ball home.
Birthday boy Dan Lewis then bagged his hat-trick following a pin point cross from Banks which was headed into the far corner to take his season tally to six.
At half time the scores sat at 4-1. In Nelson’s favour.
Despite a slower start to the second half the home team continued to dominate and Ben Banks grabbed his hat-trick with two well taken goals.
Both goals were placed to the side of the keeper to take his tally to 12 goals in 11 games.
Treforest kept battling on and if it hadn’t been for the heroics of the Treforest keeper, the scoreline could have been even larger. The final score sat at 6-1 to Nelson.
