Coleg Gwent students book place in national championship

Students from Coleg Gwent’s Crosskeys Campus recently booked their places at the British Colleges Sport National Championships at Bath University in April 2014.

Coleg Gwent students competed in the Welsh FE Colleges Championships held at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff.

Among the successes to qualify for the National Championships in 2014 were Nia Kenward, winner of the women’s squash tournament, Kayley Price, Roseann Charles and Lowri Williams, winners of first third and fifth places respectively in the female cross country competition.

The Crosskeys Campus netball squad, who won all their matches, will now represent the Welsh team at the National Championships next year.

Students that will be taking part in later competitions including trampolining and swimming will also get the opportunity to try out for a place in the National Championships.

Mererid Dark, Coleg Gwent sports lecturer said: “This is a tremendous achievement for all the students. We should also congratulate our other competitors in hockey, badminton, female and male five-a-side football and basketball competitions.”
