Nelson Cavaliers AFC put five past New Inn

It was six weeks since the Cavaliers last played a game of football but you never would have guessed with a five nil win over New Inn.

It was a scrappy start in the Taff, Ely & Rhymney Valley League One as both teams found their feet but Nelson settled first and started to influence proceedings.

Lewis Roberts found plenty of space down the right, causing  problems with a cross before the ball came out to Ryan Donovan on the edge of the box to fire in a ferocious effort into the bottom corner, giving Nelson the lead.

Hayden Pitt and Ryan Donovan linked well for the second goal as Ryan set up Hayden to finish with a composed lob of the quickly advancing keeper.

New Inn tried to come back at Nelson only to be stopped in their tracks with the killer third goal.

Pitman cut inside from the left passing to Dan Lynch who played a one touch to Dan Sudale.

Sudale played the ball out wide to Lewis before a quick one two between Ryan and Sudale who laid off Haydn to fire first time into the net.

New Inn threw everything at Nelson at the start of the second half to try and get back into the match but the Nelson back four refused to be beaten.

Nelson regained their stranglehold and from a neatly worked corner, the manager Nathan Thomas stole in unmarked at the far post to calmly volley home.

The fifth goal was coming as Dan Falconer broke through and tucked it away nicely in the corner.

Despite the score line New Inn persevered and were only denied a consolation goal by a double save from Matthew Farr to keep his clean sheet.
