Blackwood Town Cricket Club are hoping to improve on a successful season last year when its 2014 campaign begins on April 26.

The second XI take on Creigiau Cricket Club at home at The Highfields Ground, Gordon Road, in Division Two of the Glamorgan and Monmouthshire league.

The first XI have a friendly match on April 6 at Newport before their first home competitive match against Cardiff on May 3.

The club also has successful youth teams at under nine, under 11, under 13 and under 15 level.

The club’s two senior teams play every Saturday and are hoping for plenty of support at their home games.

Joe Woodland, head of marketing for the club, said: “As one of the most illustrious sports clubs in Gwent, one of our aims this year is to introduce the public to watching more cricket while having fun with their family and friends at our beautiful ground.”

The ground is located in the Sirhowy Valley and the club house is open throughout the week.

New players and members are always welcome; if you wish to play for one of the adult teams, contact Andrew Shelton via shelt@sky.comand and for new youth player queries contact Joe Woodland at joewoodland3@live.co.uk.
