Caerphilly failed to take advantage of bad results for their rivals as they lost at Brynmawr, ending their attempt to secure a top 6 finish in Division Three East.

The home side opened the scoring after three minutes with a penalty from outside half Dan Butler before Brynmawr stole a Caerphilly line-out and second row Taylor crossed the line at the back of a driving maul, giving them an eight point lead.

Caerphilly clawed some points back after quick ball from a five metre line-out released Chris Thomas, off his wing, who powered through to score.

Outside half, Luke Williams, added the conversion and a penalty four minutes later to give Caerphilly an eight points to ten lead.

A penalty by Butler for Brynmawr  was cancelled out by a well worked try for Michael Lynch, on 34 minutes.

The right winger powered through three defenders, leaving Caerphilly with a slender 11-15 lead at the interval.

Caerphilly played against the wind and rain in the second half and conceded 15 unanswered points.

Tries from second row Chris Baugh and  Neill Cortlett  as well as a conversion and penalty by Butler, secured victory for the home side.

Rhymney will be the last visitors of the season to Virginia Park on Saturday April 12, kick off 2.30pm.
