Caerphilly Park Rangers’ title hopes were dashed after a 2-2 draw against Western Bush Wanderers on April 6.
The club needed to win their remaining 3 fixtures in the Taff, Ely and Rhymney Valley, Sunday Division One league, to overtake current leaders, Llew Goch.
Caerphilly began the game well but were unable to find the net and after found themselves behind after a cleared cross fell to the opposition winger who was able to volley home from the six yard line.
The momentum of the game changed and both teams were able to string a succession of passes together before Sam Guerin clinically equalised on the stroke of half time.
Caerphilly headed into the second half with confidence and top scorer Kier Gibbons’ delicate chip was only denied by the crossbar.
Moments later a free kick was awarded outside the box and Lee Richards fired it over the wall and into the top right corner putting Caerphilly into the lead.
Celebrations were short lived as a quick Western Bush quick counter attack won them a corner which they converted neatly to bring the scores level at two all.
Several more chances fell for both sides but unable to break the deadlock the match ended a draw and with it any hope of finishing top.
With two matches to go Caerphilly are in third place with an upcoming six pointer against trailing second place Treforest and a game in hand against out of form Pontlotynn.
