Nelson Cavaliers had a mixed week in the Taff, Ely and Rhymney Valley Premier Division, beating Glyncoch Spartans in midweek before losing to Cascade on the weekend.
Nelson Cavaliers 5 – 1 Glyncoch Spartans
In the first of the midweek fixtures on March 31 Nelson and Glyncoch both began slowly in a goalless first half, despite Nelson having the better of the chances.
The Cavaliers didn’t take long to get control of the game in the second half as striker Ben Banks had a night to remember claiming all five goals.
It began with a well taken strike from a through ball from Lewis Roberts and the second came when Banks headed home from a Tom Woods corner.
The third was a top poke from a goal mouth scramble, then another power header from a Roberts corner.
Banks finished his scoring exploits with a venomous strike that the Spartans keeper could only watch fly into the net.
Nelson’s only disappointment was conceding late on but this failed to dampen Banks night as Nelson took a well deserved win.
Cascade 4 – 1 Nelson Cavaliers
Cascade gained revenge for their cup defeat last week over a subdued Nelson team on Saturday April 5.
The fighting spirit that the Cavaliers showed last week was clearly missing with a below par first half where Cascade went in with a deserved 2-0 lead.
Nelson did improve in the second half and looked to gain the upper hand when they halved the deficit through Dan Falconer.
Unfortunately for Nelson, Cascade j grew stronger and began to dictate the play and were rewarded with two well taken goals.
Despite the scoreline Nelson still created chances with Ben Banks smashing a shot onto the bar.
