Two second-half tries clinched the victory for Keys in a hard-fought game.

Bedwas took the game to their hosts from the start but could not penetrate a well-organised defence.

Powell had an opportunity to put Bedwas ahead on six minutes but his penalty hit a post and rebounded to be safely cleared.

Bedwas continued to dominate possession and finally Powell found his range with a 40 metre penalty in front of the posts.

Both sides had opportunities but neither could muster up a telling pass to put a colleague in for a try.

Bedwas number eight Dan Crimmins was sent to the sin bin after 33 minutes for reckless use of the boot, but Keys could not make the extra man count. The interval came with Bedwas holding onto a slender three points to nil advantage.

The second-half started much the same as the first had ended with both sides looking for what would be a decisive try.

It finally came after 45 minutes when Keys’ Elliot Jones ran in, Angus O’Brien missing the conversion although he made amends 11 minutes later when he slotted a penalty after Bedwas were penalised at a scrum.

Keys centre Phil Williams crossed for his side’s second try after 61 minutes again unconverted before Bedwas replacement hooker Richard Wilkes broke through two tackles to cross out wide. Powell’s conversion attempt sailed wide.

Bedwas upped the ante but opportunities were limited by wrong options or poor execution. The Keys’ defence held firm and Bedwas had to settle for a losing bonus point.
