Football: Mixed start to league for Nelson club

FOOTBALL: Llanbradach beat Nelson Cavaliers 3-2 in their first Taff Ely and Rhymney Valley Premier League game of the season.

The Cavaliers rued poor defending in the August 16 match after taking the lead twice, firstly through Ben Banks from 15 yards and again when Banks fed Lewis Roberts to finish.

But Llanbradach equalised twice, firstly after confusion between Nelson’s central defenders and the keeper Matthew Farr and secondly when Farr was wrong-footed.

The winner came when Llanbradach’s striker headed home from a cross and Nelson could only hit the post in response.

It was better news for the Cavalier’s seconds who beat Llantrisant 4-2 in Division One. Nelson were three up at half time and survived a fight back when Llantrisant scored two goals in seven minutes before Nelson secured the win.
