Caerphilly finally ended their win drought with a 11-5 victory against local rivals Senghenydd in the Swalec Plate on September 27 at Virginia Park.

Caerphilly began the derby strongly and put the visitors under pressure from the kick off.

They were awarded a penalty after two minutes and outside-half Lloyd Rowlands kicked successfully to the posts for their first points.

Rowlands was on hand to extend the lead with another penalty as the home side kept the pressure on the visitors line.

Senghenydd almost got themselves back in the game just after the quarter hour with a charge down and hack ahead almost earned them a try but they knocked on for Caerphilly to clear.

The visitors had another opportunity following a break by scrum half Joe Bray, who took the play into the 22 before spilling the ball to waste another good chance. A missed penalty by Rowlands was all they had to show for it.

With the half time looming the visitors launched an attack down the right, however a stamp and some retaliation eventually landed both sides with a player in the bin for the start of the second half.

The visitors started the second half stronger, forcing a mistake and eventually winning a penalty and an attacking lineout on the five meter line.

The throw went to hand and  the pack drove for the line with second row Rib Channon  crossing the line for an unconverted try.

Caerphilly replied following a drop out 22 when Will Worthington was on hand to slice through the Senghenydd defence to score in the corner and extend the lead back to six points, the score it remained.

This week sees the side travel to Croesyceiliog to resume their league fixtures with a 2.30pm kick off.
