Two Penpedairheol teenagers are preparing for their first British senior rally championships after a fantastic first season in their Class One Nissan Micra.

Aaron Jones and his co-driver Ryan Jones won four titles at just 18-years-old – the youngest possible age they could compete in the class.

Aaron became senior FMP Rally Challenge Tarmac Champion, Junior Welsh National Tarmac Champion and FMP Rally Challenge Junior Champion, while Ryan became FMP Rally Challenge Junior Co-drivers Champion.

Aaron said: “Last year was my first full season of rallying. I couldn’t believe the success we had, it all came down to the last few events.

“Ryan’s the only co-driver I’ve ever had. We were friends in school and we’ve known each other for many years.

“Everyone’s shocked as our combined age is the lowest we could possibly be (to compete).”

The junior category goes up to age 25, with the senior including drivers who have competed for decades.

The duo will be competing in the British Trial Drivers Association (BTDR) Forest Rally Championship this year as well as junior and senior Welsh rally and tarmac competitions.

Aaron added: “We are going into a very competitive class in the British championships, so we are really hoping for a podium finish and a shot at the junior title. The British will be my main aim.”

The widely televised BTRDA season begins on March 2 in Newtown and runs until October.

The pair are looking for sponsorship to cover the extra cost of competing in the British championships. Anyone interested can call Aaron on 07511 621140 or email him at alj2503@hotmail.com.
