Caerphilly continued their winning ways at Virginia Park on Saturday January 24, outscoring Tredegar 13 tries to three to win 83-15 in an entertaining encounter for the home fans.

Wing Aaron Davies grabbed a brace on his return to action after a layoff of nearly a year. He was joined by second row Matthew Williams, scrum-half Vaughn Thomas and centre Chris Thomas.

Forwards Gareth Jones and Gareth Harrison grabbed a try apiece, whilst centre Nigel Jones also bagged a try. Highest scorer was full-back Lloyd Rowlands, who helped himself to 9 conversions and a try.

It took just five minutes for Thomas to cross for the first try, with Rowlands adding the conversion before Jones crossed for another converted try on 20 minutes.

It wasn’t all plain sailing for the home side as Tredegar never gave up fighting.

Struggling for numbers, Caerphilly gave up some players to fulfil the fixture, and things were looking ropey after 25 minutes.

Number eight Lee Stevens collected a loose ball in centre field to race over from half way, quickly followed by centre James Savignon, who danced around two colliding defenders to score.

Savignon crossed again on 25 minutes and the visitors were 14-15 ahead before the Caerphilly side finally switched gears.

A further four converted tries before half time gave the home side breathing space and an interval lead of 42-15.

Tredegar were unfortunately no match in the second period, and in the final quarter the tries were coming every four minutes with a further 41 points added.

The bonus point win was vital for the side as they attempt to improve on a poor first half of the season having recorded only three wins.

Two victories on the trot this year has vastly improved their position and confidence, leaving them ninth in Division 2 East.

Caerphilly travel to second place Pontypool on Saturday January 31 for a 2.30pm kick off.
