Football: Second-half onslaught secures win for Nelson Cavaliers

Sport | | Published: 16:00, Thursday February 19th, 2015.

Five goals in just 12 minutes saw Nelson Cavaliers win 7-1 at Bush Bluebirds in the Taff Ely and Rhymney Valley Premier League on February 14.

The game started brightly for the Cavaliers. They went in front after six minutes when in-form Lewis Roberts let fly from 25 yards and found the top corner of the net.

The Bluebirds started to get a foothold in the game and fought back well to equalise. They deserved the goal after some sloppy play from Nelson.

The Bluebirds had the better of the rest of the half but did not create any further chances.

The Cavaliers knew their first-half performance wasn’t good enough and, to their credit, put it right by passing the ball well from the off.

In a sparkling 12-minute spell the game was put to bed and five goals were scored. Dan Falconer restored the Cavs lead, firing home from a long throw by Lewis Roberts.

Falconer completed a fantastic hat-trick within nine minutes, his second goal was well taken from 25 yards out and the ball hit the crossbar and went into the net. His third was again from a Roberts long throw.

Lewis Roberts completed his hat-trick with two very well taken goals both showing great composure when one on one with the keeper.

Ben Banks finished the scoring, breaking free before calmly rounding the keeper g to round off a fine second half performance from the Cavs.

Nelson Cavaliers seconds were not as impressive, losing 9-0 to Pontyclun.
