Rugby Union: Cross Keys denied Swalec Cup final spot by Pontypridd

Sport | | Published: 16:00, Thursday April 16th, 2015.

Cross Keys’ Swalec Cup dream is over after losing out to Pontypridd in a hard-fought semi final on April 11.

Pontypridd outscored the Keys by four tries to three to win 33-27 at Cardiff Arms Park to deny them a return to the Millennium Stadium where they lost out to Pontypridd in the final last season.

Two tries from Scott Matthews and one from Lloyd Lewis, with three penalties and two conversions by Ethan Davies were not enough as Keys fell short to their nemesis once again.

Cross Keys must now focus their attention on the Principality Premiership, where they sit third in the table ahead of a crunch rematch with top-of-the-table Pontypridd on April 18.

With a game in hand over Ebbw Vale, Cross Keys are well in with a chance of staying in the play-off places with three games left, in a bid to claim the title

Bedwas are also in with a shout sitting in fifth on equal points with Cardiff, who they face at the Bridge Field on April 18.

They face Neath, also at home, on the final day of the regular season on April 25.
