A cycling club that is less than three months old is going from strength to strength and looking to expand further.

Caerphilly Cycling Club welcomes riders of all abilities to make the most of the area’s natural beauty, while getting great exercise and making new friends.

The club cycle three times a week, with beginner rides setting off from the Tommy Cooper Statue on the Twyn in Caerphilly Town on Thursdays at 6.15pm.

The rides aim to be 20 to 25 miles, depending on the experience of new riders.

On Tuesdays at the same time the main club ride offers cyclists a tougher 30 to 50 miles, while on Sundays from 8am longer rides are offered.

Club chairman Stephen Jenkins said: “We started at the beginning of April and affiliated with British Cycling a month ago.

“We realised there was no dedicated road club in Caerphilly and it’s exploded. It’s been really good.

“We give people three free rides then ask people to join our club. We had our first female members join last week and want to get a kids club going.

“We have received fantastic support from local Companies in establishing the club and offering members a range of benefits.

“Our gratitude is extended to AFM, Baseline Physiotherapy, Cadence Cycling, Fussells Estate Agents, Minuteman Press Cardiff, Plumbsave, Spartagas and TSS Sport.”

Andrew Parry, who recently cycled for Land’s End to John O’Groats for charity is one of the club’s founder members.

He said: “We cater for all different abilities and we now have three women members.
“We want to build on the female side of the club and hope to start female only rides.”

The club also welcome social members and are organising a trip to cycle the Pyrenees.
