Caerphilly rider Manon Carpenter has finished second in the UCI Downhill World Cup Series.

The 22-year-old lost her world cup title to fellow Brit Rachel Atherton but is confident her form is improving ahead of the world championships, which culminate on September 6.

Carpenter, who won the downhill UCI World Cup Series and UCI World Championships last year, is in Andorra preparing for the defence of her world championship title.

She secured second place on the world cup series with a third place finish in Val Di Sole in Italy on August 22.

After a tough start to the season, Madison Saracen rider Carpenter rode to two second place finishes in North America, before sealing second place overall in the series in Italy.

After the Italian stage Carpenter appeared confident for the world championships, claiming she is in her best form so far this season.

She said: “Happy to finish the world cup series in second overall after a tough year.

“This week has been the best I’ve felt on my bike all season, so safe to say I’m looking forward to finding attack mode in Andorra.”

Carpenter will be competing in the downhill women elite category in Vallnord, Andorra on Sunday September 6.
