Bargoed stunned Narbeth in the SSE Swalec Championship on October 10, with the West Wales outfit suffering a thumping seven try home defeat.
Bargoed won 41-17 and the record books will be scoured for the fastest try ever, after James Pizey charged down the clearing kick from the kick off to score with barely ten seconds on the clock.
Matthew Hutcheon’s conversion drifted wide and an early yellow card followed for Narberth full back Johnny Morgan for deliberately knocking the ball into touch denying Bargoed hooker Leigh Meades a try-scoring opportunity.
The Blues took full advantage and disrupted a defensive five-metre scrum, and Pizey stripped the ball from the number eight to go over for his second try. The conversion again went wide.
Bargoed extended their lead to on 13 minutes when flanker Adam Coupe over and the bonus point came in the 24th minute when Humphries when Dyer broke from a turnover on the halfway and scored under the posts.
The yellow-carded Johnny Morgan made amends with a well taken try with a minute of the half left, converted by Ianto Griffiths, only for Bargoed to restore their 22 point advantage when Coughlin, Humphries and Ashley Norton combined to feed full back Jordan Purcell, who ran in from 25 metres. Hutcheon converted to make 29-7 at the break.
Bargoed’s sixth try came when Lewis Protheroe capped a fine return after injury to score an unconverted try, before Bargoed were reduced to 14 with a Darren Humphries yellow card for a high tackle. Narberth capitalised through Scott James to make it 34-12.
The game was put beyond the Otters with Bargoed’s seventh try by Ashley Norton, but the final say went to Narberth with Johnny Morgan getting his second try.
Bargoed, now fifth in the table, face Swansea on October 17.
