Hundreds of school pupils take part in Sport Caerphilly cross-country run

RACE ON: Hundreds of pupils took part in the event

Around 1,200 school pupils took part in a cross-country running event at Blackwood playing fields recently.

The event was organised by Sport Caerphilly and was supported by Rhymney Valley Athletics Club and saw 46 schools take part.

Pupils from years three to six took part, with the winners going forward a regional competition on November 19.

The winners were Lilly-May Thomas of Maesycwmmer, Oliver Reynolds of Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Caerffili, Marni Burridge of Abertysswg and Jaidan Foxwell of Trinant in the year three and four category.

In the year five and six races, winners were Yasmin Hidid of Bedwas, Isaac Carpenter of Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Caerffili, Poppy Faucher-Styles of Ysgol Y Castell and Lloyd Oliver of Plas-Y-Felin.

Cllr Nigel George, Caerphilly County Borough Council Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, said: “I am delighted that this event received so many fantastic entries.

“Well done to each and every pupil who took part – you are all great ambassadors for both your school and for Caerphilly. I look forward to seeing the competition progress to regional level.”
