Blackwood Town Cricket Club and Potnllanfraith Cricket Club merge

Sport | | Published: 12:00, Wednesday December 16th, 2015.

CRICKET: Blackwood Town Cricket Club and Pontllanfraith Cricket Club have announced they are to merge.

From the 2016 season onwards, all players will be officially registered to Blackwood, with the club retaining its logo, its name and will still be based at Highfields.

Blackwood’s Third and Fourth XI’s will become known as Pontllanfraith First and Seconds respectively. Both teams will alternately play at Islwyn Park, Springfield.

Eric Reardon, Chairman of Blackwood Town Cricket Club, said: “The merger between Blackwood and Pontllanfraith is brilliant news for both parties.

“We both have a chance to do something special here and provide the best cricketing experience for all of our members.

“I for one would personally like to welcome the Pontllanfraith members to our club, I am very much looking forward to working closely with you all over the coming seasons.”

The newly-merged club will field four Saturday teams, a Sunday team, a midweek Twenty20 team and four youth teams (under-9s, 11s, 13s and 15s).

Blackwood will continue to play in Division One of the Thomas Carroll Glamorgan and Monmouthshire League while Pontllanfraith will play in Division Four of the Welsh Club Conference.
