Young players at Llanbradach AFC were treated to a day of team-building exercises by University of South Wales students on Sunday March 20.

Lewis Yendle-Davies, 19, from Caerphilly is studying Football Coaching and Performance at the university campus in Trefforest and decided to hold the event at his former football club, where he played for ten years.

As part of a module on managing and developing the sport in communities, Mr Yendle-Davies and three fellow students decided to focus their sessions on the basic principles of team work and building relationships between fellow players.

Children aged between six and ten undertook a multitude of tasks, including being blindfolded and vocally led through a minefield of objects by a partner, and creating a ‘squat circle’, where players had to communicate and work with each other to maintain their balance.

A five-a-side tournament rounded off the day, with all players receiving a certificate for their participation.

Lewis said: “It was a fantastic day all round. The kids learnt new skills while having fun, and myself and the rest of the coaches thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to put this event on for this great local club.”

Llanbradach AFC are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year.
