UV hockey at Caerphilly Leisure Centre is first of its kind

Sport | | Published: 11:33, Friday April 1st, 2016.

Sport Caerphilly, along with volunteers from Whitchurch Valleys Hockey Club, hosted the first ever Rush Hockey event under ultra-violet lighting at Caerphilly Leisure Centre on Thursday March 17.

The event engaged 40 girls aged 14-15 years old from Bedwas High School as they took part in a number of activities during the session.

Rush Hockey is a new five-a-side version of the sport played either indoors or outdoors on a smaller pitch than that designed for conventional hockey.

Cllr Nigel George, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services said: “I am delighted that Sport Caerphilly’s UV hockey event was such a great success. I hope this has encouraged others to take part Rush Hockey, as this is an excellent way to improve physical wellbeing. Well done to everyone involved”.
