Council launches new scheme to support talented athletes

Sport | | Published: 11:39, Friday April 29th, 2016.

Sport Caerphilly have launched a new scheme aimed at supporting the most talented athletes in Caerphilly County Borough.

Elite Caerphilly provides a range of applicants with bronze, silver or gold status depending on their sporting achievements.

By the time of the scheme’s launch on Thursday, April 14, over 107 applications were sent in, with 56 young athletes awarded the Elite Caerphilly status.

Bronze ambassadors have represented their region, and are potential stars of the future.

Silver ambassadors will have represented Wales across a variety of sports, while those with gold status may also have represented Great Britain, and have large success behind them.

Gold ambassadors include heavyweight boxer Kody Davis, from Pontllanfraith, swimmer Ellis Underwood, from Blackwood, and 59-cap Wales scrum-half Amy Day.
