Rugby Union: Caerphilly Youth through to final in Ystrad Mynach

Sport | | Published: 10:55, Friday May 27th, 2016.

Caerphilly Youth have secured their place in the WRU National Regional Youth Final with a strong semi-final victory over Crymych Youth.

The Green and Whites will face Nantyfyllon Youth at the Centre for Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach on Friday May 27, kick off at 7.15pm.

A large number of supporters braved the foul weather on route to the West Wales ground, and were rewarded when Caerphilly took an early lead through centre Cyle Powell.

The sides traded penalties, but an error on the stroke of half-time allowed Crymych captain Ifan Phillips to score with relative ease, bringing the score to 14-10 to the visitors at the break.

Caerphilly applied more pressure in the second half, and No.8 Sam Haley crossed to give his side some breathing space.

Powell’s second try only increased the gap, and despite a late well-worked try, the game slipped away from Crymych to finish 27-15.
