A sports development officer from Sport Caerphilly will be hoping to guide her country to glory at a touch rugby tournament over the weekend.

Rhiannon Wade will represent Wales Women at the European Touch Rugby Championships, which are being held in Jersey from Thursday July 7 to Sunday July 10.

Rhiannon has previously represented Wales Women at the 2015 World Cup in Australia, and during the European Championships in Swansea in 2014.

She said: “Wales are hoping to win this year, but have a tough opening game against England.

“Wales currently hold the silver medal in Europe in the women’s category, with England holding the gold. I look forward to representing my country once again.”

The Championships see 14 teams face off, including the likes of Belgium, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Middle East Touch, Netherlands, Switzerland, Scotland, as well as England and Wales.

Cllr Nigel George, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services said: “Well done to Rhiannon and her team members for qualifying once again for the European Touch Rugby Championships. I wish them the very best of luck.”
