Rugby League: Presidents XIII international team to be launched

Sport | | Published: 11:05, Monday September 5th, 2016.

Wales Rugby League (WRL) is to introduce a new international side to fill the gap between the Dragonhearts (a Wales A side) and the full international side.

The new side, dubbed the Presidents XIII, will be made up of community and semi-professional players.

Their first match will be against another newly formed side, West of England Lionhearts, on Sunday September 25 at Blackwood RFC.

The WRL have appointed South Wales Scorpions half-back, Paul Emanuelli, as Presidents XIII coach, having previously led Wales Under-18s.

He said: “This is a fantastic new initiative from Wales Rugby League. It’s not only being run as a representative side but we’ll actively promote all forms of Rugby League in Wales as kit-wise, it’s being run a bit like rugby union’s Barbarians.”

An open trial and training morning is being held on Sunday, September 4 at Caerphilly RFC, between 9am and midday.

For further information, contact Paul Emanuelli on 07540107847 or email paul.emanuelli@scorpionsrl.com.
