Rugby Union: Disabled fans “missing out” on tickets due to new system

A new ticketing system is leading to some disabled rugby fans missing out on attending matches, it has been claimed.

Welsh rugby supporters with disabilities previously had to apply in writing for seats at the Principality Stadium, and could specify which price ticket they wanted.

But it’s been claimed that a new website does not offer the same choice, raising fears unaffordable seats may be allocated.

Speaking to BBC Wales’ X-Ray programme on Monday January 30, Jeff Gibbs, from Bargoed, said: “You can apply for the match you want to go to, but you’ve got no say on the price bracket that you are put into.

Mr Gibbs, whose wife is wheelchair-bound, added: “It means I can’t apply because if I’m successful in the ballot and they decide the higher price bracket there won’t be enough money in the bank to cover it.”

The Welsh Rugby Union confirmed it would consider the feedback to ensure the best service for disabled supporters.
