Applications for the Sport Wales Community Chest Grant are now open, allowing community groups to receive up to £1,500.

The Community Chest Grant aims to increase club standards and promote participation in local sports, and the amount of applications have increased year on year, with £112,350 awarded to clubs during 2016.

Previous winners include Heolddu Gymnastics Club, Bargoed, who received £1,500 to train up four volunteers with UKCC qualifications; Cascade Football Club, Penpedairheol, who also received £1,500 to train volunteers and purchase equipment; and Blackwood Town Cricket club.

Applications are now open, with the first deadline of the year on Friday March 24.

Cllr Nigel George, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, said: “I am delighted that the Community Chest Grant has helped so many community groups throughout Caerphilly County Borough.

“I look forward to seeing the ways in which other clubs benefit over the next year.”
