Cricket: Newbridge unbeaten streak continues as Blackwood register first win of season

Cricket teams across Caerphilly County Borough enjoyed stunning weather conditions as the South Wales East divisions entered the latter half.

Newbridge CC, who top South Wales East Division 1, continued their unbeaten streak this season by beating Pontypool CC at Ynysangharad Park on Saturday June 17.

Ponty won the toss and elected to bat first, registering 146 all out. Gregor McKain and Thomas Vaal were both bowled out for ducks, while Ryan D Williams hit 38 from 92 balls.

Newbridge won by five wickets, claiming 149 for five when they came out to bat.

Blackwood CC defeated Croesyceiliog CC in style, hitting 331 for eight to win by 171 runs having batted first.

Jared Withers and Gareth Berry scored 67 and 68 respectively, as Blackwood registered their first win of the season.

Elsewhere, Crumlin CC beat Sully Centurions CC by 92 runs in a top-of-the-table clash in Division 3, while Machen CC dropped to bottom with defeat to Monmouth CC.
